ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The Albany Police Department has released the following safety tips for your child from their crime prevention unit.

Below are the five tips:

  • Don’t share personal information
    • Names, addresses, and school details should never be given out without parents’ approval.
  • Beware of scams
    • Teach children that if it sounds too good to be true… it probably isn’t true!
  • Supervise computer use.
    • Keep the device in a common area where you can monitor activity. Use parental control to block inappropriate sites and chat rooms
  • Teach the child what to do if something feels wrong.
    • If you see something inappropriate or get messages from strangers, tell a parent or guardian immediately. Never respond to strangers online.
  • Stay involved
    • Regularly check the websites your child visits and monitor how much time they spend online. Review their browsing history often.
