ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — Georgia Power crews are working around the clock to restore electricity to customers in South Georgia after the remnants of Hurricane Isaias moved through the region late Friday, Oct. 9, and into early Saturday, Oct. 10.
Joshua Peacock, a Georgia Power spokesperson, told WALB that crews would continue working through the night.
“We’re not going to stop tonight until it’s done,” Peacock said. “So, we’re going to be working all night.”
Isaias knocked out power to nearly 7,000 customers in the Albany-Dougherty area, Peacock said. As of about 1:30 p.m., more than half had been restored.
Peacock said the outages were less severe than in previous storms, crediting recent investments in local power infrastructure for making the grid more reliable and resilient.
“We have invested a lot in the last few years in the local grid across different communities here in Albany to ensure that we make it more reliable and more resilient,” Peacock said. “So, we’re seeing sort of the fruits of that labor, if you will, during this storm response. So, there’s a lot less outages than we’ve seen in the past.”
