LEESBURG, Ga. (WALB) - A parade was held in downtown Leesburg on June 14 to celebrate Juneteenth. The event was just one of many Juneteenth festivities hosted by Georgia Roots and held from June 12 to 15.
The parade’s theme was “Together We Rise – Celebrating Freedom and Unity,” according to organizers.
The parade, whose Grand Marshall was Pastor Tony Lowden, began at 10 a.m. and was followed by a festival with barbecue and local vendors. It also featured motorcycle and Corvette groups and a school band from Macon.

Georgia Roots also hosted a Storytelling Time on June 12 and a Movie Night on June 13. Tomorrow, June 15, they plan to host a Sunday morning worship service beginning at 9 a.m. at Church of Leesburg.

All of these events were free to the public. Church of Leesburg is located at 896 Lovers Lane Road in Leesburg.
Albany’s Juneteenth celebrations are scheduled for next weekend — June 21.
