MACON, Ga. (WGXA) — A piece of New Orleans is coming to Macon as this year's "King of Soul Festival" celebrates the late Otis Redding's 84th birthday.
Hosted by the Otis Redding Foundation, the event pays tribute to the life and legacy of Macon's most proclaimed rhythm and blues artist and musician this weekend.
On Friday, the "An Evening of Respect" gala event features music from Preservation Hall Jazz Band, from New Orleans, and special guests Yola, Lamont Landers, Dexter Redding and Charles Davis at the Macon City Auditorium at 7:00 PM.

On Saturday, September 13, the celebration will continue with the "Big 'O' Homecoming Show and Dance" at the Capital Theatre in Downtown Macon. The night will be filled with music from another New Orleans-based DJ, rapper and Cash Money Records producer, Mannie Fresh, at 8:00 PM.
All proceeds from this event will benefit the Otis Redding Center of the Arts, a new facility designed to foster music education for future generations, which opened in March 2025.
Tickets for these events are still available and can be purchased at Ticketmaster and Eventim.
