LEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - The Lee County Sheriff’s Office urges motorists to drive calmly following road rage incident.
According to LCSO, on Thursday Jan. 30 just before 2 p.m., deputies responded to a call in the Publix parking lot regarding a road rage incident that started in the 700 block of US 19 South. The Leesburg Police Department located the suspect’s vehicle in the 200 block of US 19 North and made contact with the suspect, William Jackson Hood.
The investigation revealed Hood was driving a silver Toyota Scion and intentionally rammed the victim’s vehicle, causing extensive damage to the rear-end of the victim’s vehicle. The front of the suspect’s car was also damaged.
The Leesburg Police Department assisted the Sheriff’s Office in arresting the suspect who was then charged with aggravated assault.
“I think the most important thing is to remain calm. Don’t let the adrenaline overdrive you, you know? Don’t engage with any type of action with the aggressive driver. Just try to safely get out of their way by changing lanes or exiting the roadway. In the event they pursue after you, I would stay in a public area, like a grocery store or something like that. Anywhere there is a lot of public people. Then call 911 immediately,” said Leesburg Police Chief, Chris Prokesh.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office echoed a similar message on their Facebook page following the incident.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office strongly advises drivers to maintain composure and exercise patience while operating motor vehicles. Road rage incidents can have serious consequences, and the LCSO is committed to ensuring the safety of all drivers in Lee County. We encourage drivers to practice defensive driving techniques and to avoid engaging with aggressive drivers. If you encounter a situation that escalates, it is best to disengage and contact law enforcement.
