(Gray Media) – Defense attorney Kevin Reddington spoke about the Lindsay Clancy trial in an interview on “Good Morning America” Tuesday.

Clancy never disputed that she killed her three young children but was on trial to determine whether she should be held criminally responsible for their deaths.

Prosecutors argued Clancy knew what she was doing, but Reddington said she had a rare condition called postpartum psychosis when she strangled her kids and then tried to take her own life in 2023.

After six days of deliberation, a mistrial was declared in the high-profile case.

Reddington, Clancy’s attorney, believes the 36-year-old former labor and delivery nurse would have been acquitted if not for a juror who was the center of a dispute over whether the judge’s instructions were being followed during deliberation.

During his interview with “Good Morning America,” Reddington spoke about the next steps in the case and asked President Donald Trump to pardon his client.

“Mr. President, I would hope you would consider this young lady, the type of person she is what she has been through, and consider a pardon,” Reddington said.

Trump spoke about the trial after it wrapped up last week, calling it a horrible tragedy.

“Look, she did a horrible, horrible thing,” Trump said. “But you’ll find out what the price to pay is. There’ll be a price. It’s going to be mental institution or jail or something, but I guess they’re going to go through another trial. It’s too bad.”

The judge acknowledged early during deliberations that the trial had been emotionally and physically exhausting for everyone. Much of the testimony was excruciating to hear, from the heartbreaking 911 call made by the children’s father who found their bodies, to the descriptions of how they died.

Judge William Sullivan set a hearing for Sept. 29. During that proceeding, defense attorney Kevin Reddington will likely ask the judge to declare Clancy not guilty. It’s a long shot move and very unlikely to succeed.

That hearing could also reveal whether prosecutors will move to put Clancy on trial for a second time. They could also choose to seek a plea deal or even drop the case entirely, though that option is unlikely.

Sullivan suggested that everyone involved in the case, from attorneys to witnesses to court administrators, would need to look at their calendars to find a suitable time for a new trial, if one is held.
