SUMTER COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - A man was arrested and now faces several charges following a domestic dispute that occurred on Oct. 14, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO). A woman was taken to the hospital for her injuries.

The incident was reportedly at a residence on Salters Mill Road at about 4 p.m. on Oct. 14. SCSO said deputies arrived at the residence to find a woman with “obvious injuries about the head area.”

Deputies then saw a man, later identified as Christopher Pilgrim, run into the residence with what appeared to be a rifle. SCSO said they later discovered that Pilgrim had several other weapons inside the residence.

SCSO then contacted the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team for assistance, according to a press release.

After negotiating with officials, Pilgrim surrendered on Wednesday, Oct. 15. He is charged with multiple counts of terroristic threats, false imprisonment, aggravated battery and aggravated assault, according to the sheriff’s office.

Officials said the woman was treated for her injuries and is recovering.

Sheriff Eric Bryant said domestic violence calls are some of the most dangerous calls that law enforcement officials respond to.

“I will continue to make sure that the men and women of the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Sumter County are safe as we deal with these types of calls,” Bryant added.
