ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — The man found dead behind the old Red Lobster in Albany has now been identified, according to the incident report.

Albany Police Department (APD) is no longer considering this death a homicide but rather a “suspicious” death.

Monday evening (Sept. 21) around 7:30 p.m., Coroner Michael Fowler responded to 2403 N Slappey Blvd., which is near the old Red Lobster.

According to the incident report, officers responded after getting a report about a “man down.” When they got there, they found a man dead near the area for the dumpster.

In the report, officers say the deceased man was wearing jeans, a white sock on his right foot, a black sock on his left foot, and no shirt. His head was reportedly hanging off a mattress he was lying on. There were a number of pieces of clothing strewn around the area; officers believe the man may have lived in the area.

Officers also noted a lot of flies around the body, and discoloration to the face and fingers.

Coroner Fowler then went to the scene and pronounced the man dead. When crews moved the body, they discovered a hole in his head. At that point, homicide detectives were called out to the scene.

Investigators talked to a nearby homeowner, who said he had seen several people going in and out of the area where the man was found dead. The homeowner noted seeing a woman in the area on Sept. 21 around 3 p.m. He says she was wearing a yellow shirt and blue bottoms. Officers then spoke to a woman matching this description, who said she was in the area near the old Red Lobster “a week ago,” and that she hadn’t seen the victim in about a week. She told investigators the man was recently released from prison, and she thought his name was Gerald.

Officers used the Rapid ID system and identified the man as Jarrod Lamar Holden, 31, of Cartersville.

Other details are limited at this time, but initially Fowler said on scene they are “treating it as a homicide.”
