GEORIGA— Early voting is underway in the nation’s most-watched special congressional election, and President Donald Trump will pay a visit to Georgia’s 14th congressional district on Thursday.

According to the White House, President Trump is expected to travel to Rome, Georgia, where he will give remarks on affordability and the economy followed by a local business visit.

President Donald Trump is planning to visit Georgia’s 14th congressional district on Thursday.

“President Trump’s visit to Rome will underscore the work that this Administration has already done to raise real wages and accelerate economic growth – and what work the Administration will continue doing to keep delivering for Georgians," a White House official said.

The president has endorsed Clay Fuller, the district attorney for the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit, for the March 10 special election to replace Marjorie Taylor Greene in Congress.

An original race of 22 qualified candidates is now down to 18, with Saturday’s withdrawal of Republican Larry Hilley being the latest. Last week, James Marty Brown dropped out of the race and endorsed state Sen. Colton Moore.

Both Jared Craig and Christian Hurd dropped out of the race this month. Both endorsed Fuller.

Georgia’s 14th congressional district stretches from the Chattanooga, Tennessee, metropolitan area in an east/south arc toward metro Atlanta’s outlying suburbs. The district’s major population centers are Dalton (Whitfield County), Rome (Floyd County), Cartersville (Bartow County area near Paulding County) and portions of Paulding County (Dallas).

Because there are so many candidates, a runoff election is all but certain, and one has been set for April 7. Whoever wins the runoff will officially fill out the remainder of Greene’s congressional term through next January.

Here’s more on how the race will work:

President Donald Trump has endorsed Lookout Mountain District Attorney Clay Fuller in the race.

Whoever wins the November general election for the seat — whether it be the candidate who wins to fill the remainder of Greene’s term or a different candidate — will be sworn in sometime in January 2027 for the full two-year term.

However, if the winner wants to run for reelection in Georgia’s nationally watched 2026 midterms, he or she will have to run in the May 19 statewide primary. If a runoff is needed, it will be held on June 16.

Then, it’s onto the Nov. 3 general election, whose winner will serve in Congress for a full, two-year term. A Dec. 1 runoff will happen, if needed.
