MONROE COUNTY, Ga. (WGXA) — A Monroe County family's barn went up in flames on Sunday afternoon.
According to the Monroe County Emergency Services, firefighters were sent to a residence along Elbert Jones Road at around 4:30 p.m. where they found a barn with a collapsed roof and heavy fire coming out from the front residential openings.

MCES said with help from three tankers from Jones County, crews were able to get the blaze under control "in short order."
Authorities said in a release that the family of four all got out in time, and were able to rescue their 4-year-old daughter's pony from inside the barn. However, the family did lose their son's turtles and fish. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
MCES is asking for donations of gift cards to help the family get back on their feet after losing their belongings. Those who wish to donate can do so at MCES Station 1 at 693 Juliette Road in Forsyth, Ga.
