ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WTVY) - Authorities charged the mother of a missing Coffee County toddler with capital murder and corpse abuse on Monday afternoon.

Adrienne Reid faces the allegations, though searchers have not found the body of her daughter, 2-year-old Genesis Reid, reported missing on Feb. 16.

Charging documents, however, allege the child was killed on Christmas Day.

Enterprise Police Chief Michael Moore told reporters that video was obtained showing Reid throwing a duffel bag with Genesis’ remains into a dumpster.

Moore said Genesis had visited relatives in Dothan on December 25 and returned home late that night.

Sheriff Scott Byrd said a massive search for the remains of the 2-year-old in the Coffee County landfill using ultramodern techniques and specialized equipment is planned.

The search area has been narrowed to no more than 200 square feet, but Byrd warned the search would be a tedious process to find the decomposed remains.

“We have a team of experts from Atlanta coming in this week,” he said.

News4's Ken Curtis highlights the main takeaways from Monday's major update regarding Genesis Reid's investigation, and shares how the case will likely proceed.

Coffee County District Attorney James Tarbox promised to seek the death penalty in the case.

He did not reveal a cause of death, which would likely be difficult to prove given the body’s anticipated condition.

Adrienne Reid already faces charges of making false statements to officers when reporting her daughter missing from their Apache Drive home on February 16.

Moore praised the people of Enterprise for providing tips in the investigation and thanked a plethora of law enforcement agencies that assisted.
