ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — Community leaders, advocates, policy experts and residents came together Saturday, Aug. 29 at Albany State’s Campus to discuss ways to increase voter turnout ahead of election season.

The event, put on by the Southern Rural Black Women’s Initiative, focused on how local communities across Southwest Georgia can move from just talking to taking action.

Attendees discussed different topics such as civic engagement, education and healthcare. One of the more heavily focused issues, though, centered around voter turnout and getting the vote out in rural areas.
