Description

ALBANY, GA (WALB-TV) — A Freeze Warning is in effect through 9 a.m. Tuesday as temperatures plummet to around 24 degrees. Albany’s record low 21° was set on Feb. 24 in 1989. After that brief cold snap, a dramatic warmup is on the way, but it comes with a good chance of rain that could impact your plans later in the week.

Tonight: Frost and Freeze Conditions

Expect patchy frost to develop tonight after 4 a.m. as lows drop to around 24 degrees. If you have sensitive plants or outdoor items, bring them in or cover them up. You’ll need warm layers before heading out as it’ll feel about 5° colder with a light NW breeze.

Tuesday: Sunny but Still Cool

The good news? Tuesday features plenty of sunshine with pleasant highs 55-57°. Through the afternoon light southwest winds will make it a nice day to be outside.

Wednesday: Warming Trend Begins

Temperatures will climb to near 70 degrees on Wednesday with mostly cloudy skies. This is when you’ll really notice the warmup compared to the past couple of days. Southwest winds will be a bit stronger at 5 to 15 mph.

Thursday and Friday: Rain and Thunderstorms Move In

This is where your plans may need adjusting. A cold front will bring rain and thunderstorms into SGA Thursday afternoon through Friday. Here’s what to expect:

Thursday: Showers likely with thunderstorms possible after 1 p.m. It will be breezy with highs near 73°. There’s a 60% chance of rain.

Thursday Night into Friday: Conditions intensify. An 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms Thursday night, with the heaviest rain expected after 1 a.m. Friday morning.

Friday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 1 p.m., then scattered showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Highs low 70s with a 70% chance of rain.

If you have outdoor plans, indoor activities may be your best bet Thursday through Friday. Keep an umbrella handy and stay alert for any weather updates.

Weekend Outlook: Drying Out

The rain chance drops to 30% on Saturday with partly sunny skies and highs low 70s. By Sunday, conditions improve significantly with mostly sunny skies and highs near 75° — a perfect spring-like day. Early week look for warmer upper 70s. For late February SGA’s average high is 68°.
