ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - An Albany Police (APD) press meeting confirmed that 41-year-old, Allen Plummer, was not shot. Albany Police Chief Michael Persley revealed new details about a Monday, Dec. 8 homicide which marked the city’s 17th homicide of the year.

Police reports stated Plummer was found unconscious and lodged under a Range Rover after gunshots were reported on West Waddell Avenue.

In the meeting, Chief Persley said Plummer was seeking shelter from gunfire behind the Range Rover when a suspect began shooting at the driver and passenger inside the vehicle.

“At this time, we do not believe Plummer was the target for those who were shooting,” Persley said. “He got between the vehicle one victim was in. When that vehicle was shot up, the driver in that vehicle pulled forward and hit Plummer.”

Two other people were shot in the incident. A neighbor’s house was also struck by gunfire.

“We don’t know who was shooting,” Persley said. “We do know the people at the residence were being targeted. Plummer was just there with these people.”

Neighbors’ Concerns

With 17 homicides so far this year, Albany has already exceeded the 2024 total of 16.

Persley advised concerned neighbors along West Waddell Avenue and the community to pay attention to safety around their homes.

“It’s not always a side of town or neighborhood,” Persley said. “Sometimes it’s just one house on the block causing the majority of the problems. If the people living in this house were not staying there, then those problems would tend to go away. Identify what that house is, and let us know.”

Police said they have not identified any suspects. The investigation remains active.
