ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — Albany and Dougherty County residents are gathering Saturday, Oct. 17, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a vote early event hosted by No Kings.
The event will be held at Voter Headquarters at 1127 W. Broad Ave.
The rally is part of a nationwide Day of Action focused on increasing voter turnout and ensuring every vote is counted, certified and protected.
According to officials, the No Kings movement is dedicated to reclaiming the power of the people to make sure every voice is heard. Organizers said the country’s democracy depends on voters being able to participate freely in elections.
The day of rallying focuses on nonpartisan voter participation, community involvement and ensuring each eligible voter has the resources to cast a ballot.
Members of the Dougherty County Democratic Committee took to the streets Saturday to encourage people to vote here at home.
“This is a very important race. We have an unprecedented administration in the White House doing harm that will impact us and our grandchildren. This is what I call the 2nd most important election of my life, and I’m 61 years old, said Tim Wesselman, one of the members.
Wesselman strongly encourages voters to get out and cast their ballot as the issues they voted on will likely affect generations to come.
“This is an election people will want to say they voted in, and they will want to be able to tell their grandchildren that they did something,” he said.
Early voting lasts until Friday, Oct. 30. Extended early voting will be held on Oct. 22 & 29 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Oct. 17 & 24 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Oct. 25 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Albany Civic Center.
