Macon, Ga. (WGXA) — The Friday night lights grow brighter across the mid-state, but how did teams respond? William Bazzone and Carlos Stephens share the best of Middle Georgia high school football action from Week 5.
GAMES COVERED:
Perry 28, Veterans 15 (GAME OF THE WEEK)
Coming off of a bye and two-game losing streak, the Panthers got a much-needed win ahead of region play starting. Despite starting slow offensively, Kevin Smith’s squad finished the game strong in the second half en route to a 13-point win.
Hawkinsville 23, Rutland 12
The Red Devils survived an early scare from the Hurricanes on the road to move to 4-0 on the year. Rutland has now lost their 15th straight contest, dating back to 2023.
GAME CHANGER |
Stratford 28, Frederica 13
Stratford trailed by 7 at the half but exploded for 22 points over the final 22 points, taking care of business against the Knights. The Eagles remain undefeated through their first four games.
FPD 21, Pinewood Christian 10
Brett Collier’s Vikings played keep-away for much of the fourth quarter, leaning on their strong rushing attack and defense to pick up their fourth win of the season.

Play of the Week - Passing TD by Veterans QB Trey Byrd
The sophomore Warhawk showed off his arm in more ways than one tonight, but his first TD pass in the second quarter came off of a bobbled snap and heavy pressure from Perry’s defense. He connected with junior receiver Kaden Gutierrez on the play.
