SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) -A large group gathered in Forsyth Park Saturday to protest federal immigration enforcement activity in Minneapolis and nationwide.
People took to the park’s stage area to stand in solidarity with Minnesota. They held up signs reading “stop ICE terror” and signs remembering those recently killed by federal immigration agents.
The rally’s organizer said the event goes further than solidarity.
“We have to keep spreading awareness because just they might not be terrorizing us like they are in Minneapolis, but they could be here next,” said Lauren Nowak with the Party for Socialism and Liberation.
Some in attendance were from Minneapolis and said they want to bring awareness to what’s happening in their home city.
“Right now, I want ICE out of my community. They’re murdering people on the streets. They’re taking away children and people out of their homes, bashing in windows and grabbing people out of their cars,” said a woman named Jan visiting from Minneapolis.
Republican Congressman Buddy Carter recently weighed in on the situation in Minnesota, saying “Violent Minnesota mobs attacking ICE and law enforcement is NOT protesting. It’s criminal behavior.”
