ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A Georgia Department of Public Safety vehicle was struck early Sunday morning while escorting trucks that were treating local roads ahead of the weekend’s ice storm.
“This is exactly why we ask drivers to stay off the roads when travel isn’t necessary and to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles, tow trucks, and disabled vehicles,” the department said on a social media post.
Officials said the vehicle was a commercial vehicle enforcement unit.

“Our troopers and officers are working in hazardous conditions to prepare roads and protect the public,” the department said. “Failing to slow down, stay alert, or move over puts lives at risk, including the people working to keep Georgia’s roads safe.
“If you don’t have to be out, stay home. If you see flashing lights, slow down and move over.”
