ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) —

1-2″ of widespread rainfall is the most significant event in months, however it will take more consistent rain events like this to bust the drought. It is a step in the right direction and will be beneficial in the fight against the Pineland Road Fire in Clinch and Echols Counties.

The National Weather Service notes that exceptional drought conditions continue across the region, with extreme drought expanding. This weekend’s rain will help.

Saturday afternoon/evening clouds will clear out, setting the stage for a nice Sunday. It will be chilly to kick off the week though.

Sunday Through Tuesday: Your Best Weather Days

Sunday will be the first of several pleasant days ahead. Temperatures will be chilly starting out in the 40s, then abundant sunshine follows with pleasantly mild highs in the 70s making it an ideal day for outdoor activities.

Monday continues the sunny trend as highs climb into the upper 70s to low 80s. More sunshine Tuesday with seasonal highs low to mid-80s — perfect weather for the work week.

What to Expect Beyond Tuesday

Conditions remain mostly pleasant through Wednesday, though scattered showers and storms move in on Thursday. Severe storms are expected from east Texas to central Alabama mid week. Highs drop into the 70s.
