Description

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Almost two months after she declined a Senate challenge against Democrat Jon Ossoff, U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said Tuesday she will not run for Georgia governor, either.

Greene, who represents northwest Georgia’s 14th congressional district, announced her decision in a lengthy social media post.

“I am humbled and grateful by the massive statewide support that I have to run for Governor, and if I wanted to run we all know I would win,” she wrote on social media. “It’s not even debatable. And only because of that massive statewide support is why I ever considered it in the first place.”

I’m always dismayed by constant rumors about me and people who claim I am doing things, yet have not spoken to me about anything I am doing or not doing. If you have not heard it straight from me, then it is likely not true.

If I was running for governor the entire world would…

Two weeks ago, Lt. Gov. Burt Jones made official his long-rumored bid to become Georgia’s 84th governor.

After outgoing Gov. Brian Kemp declined to challenge Ossoff, speculation immediately turned to Greene, who decided not to run.

Both Georgia’s governor’s race and U.S. Senate races are among the nation’s most closely watched 2026 midterm elections.

Greene is one of President Donald Trump’s most unabashed supporters. In early May, the House approved Greene’s bill to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America,” which would codify an executive order signed by President Donald Trump on his second day in office.

Greene has represented her district in Congress since 2021. She has been unapologetically at the center of the nation’s political and culture wars for years:

On the Republican side, Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr and Jones are seeking the GOP gubernatorial nominations.

On the Democrat side, former Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms; state Sen. Jason Esteves; state Rep. Derrick Jackson; and businessman/pastor Olu Brown are seeking their party’s nomination.

Former Labor Commissioner and DeKalb CEO Michael Thurmond is also teasing a gubernatorial bid.
