Description
BEN HILL COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — The Ben Hill County Sheriff’s Office (BHCSO) said Wednesday, May 27, that a resident of the county recently lost approximately $3,000 to a scammer. The loss prompted the sheriff’s office to warn others.
BHCSO’s response emphasized that the sheriff’s office will never call residents to request money in exchange for someone being released from jail.
Officials clarified that if someone calls them to ask about bond information, BHCSO may provide the status of that bond, but they will not ask for money over the phone.
Again, the sheriff’s office said that it will not ask citizens to do the following over the phone:
- Send money
- Transfer funds
- Use gift cards
- Send CashApp payments
- Use any other forms of payment
BHCSO asked the community to spread the word about scams, especially with loved ones who do not use social media often and may be unaware of the prevalence of scams.
The sheriff’s office added that anyone who receives a suspicious call should hang up immediately and contact them at (229) 426-5161 or (229) 426-5160.
