VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - Residents in Valdosta have the opportunity to influence the city’s future policies surrounding short-term rentals. In Georgia, short-term rentals are units that are rented for less than 30 consecutive days. Some popular short-term rental companies include AirBnB, Vrbo and Vacasa.

The city of Valdosta is inviting residents, property owners and other community stakeholders to give their feedback, ask questions and start open dialogue as Valdosta considers short-term rental properties and their impact on neighborhoods and housing.

The workshop dates and times are as follows:

  • Tuesday, April 14 at 4 p.m.
  • Thursday, April 16 at 4 p.m.
  • Tuesday, April 28 at 4 p.m.

The workshops will be held in the City Hall Annex Multipurpose Room, organizers said. City hall is located at 300 North Lee Street in Valdosta.

Some Georgia cities, like Savannah, maintain dashboards of short-term rentals that can be viewed through a public portal.

The city of Albany passed their short-term rental ordinance in 2024, which requires “all property owners of record adjacent to the proposed short-term vacation rental shall be notified of the use before the issuance of the initial short-term rental vacation certificate.”

The city of Valdosta released the following statement about the future policies:

“The City encourages anyone interested in the topic of short-term rentals to attend and be a part of the conversation. Input gathered during these sessions will help inform future decisions and ensure community voices are heard.”
