ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) -There was quite a scene at PruittHealth located at 1904 Palmyra Road this morning.

Residents were wheeled out of the building and were laying in their beds in the parking lot as emergency services responded.

The Albany Fire Department and Dougherty County EMS were on scene.

According to Assistant Fire Chief Alonzo Robinson, a suspicious smell was detected and residents were evacuated as a precaution.

Fire crews found that the smell was coming from a faulty air conditioning unit.

PruittHealth’s management would not discuss the incident with WALB when we were on scene, but they have since released a statement.

The safety of our patients is our highest priority. Earlier today, an HVAC system malfunctioned, causing some smoke in the building. In an abundance of caution, all patients were initially evacuated; but have since returned to their rooms, where they remain safe. Families were notified of the situation, and we appreciate their trust in our team, as we continue to care for their loved ones.

WALB has confirm that no residents were injured during this incident.
