NASHVILLE, Ga. (WALB) —China East Po’s Sub Sandwiches got a 78 on its food service inspection on Wednesday, August 29.

They received a total of five infractions; four of the five were repeat violations, three of the five were corrected while inspectors were on-site, and the remaining two have “correct by” dates listed in the report.

2. Observed rice in a reach-in cooler maintained above 41 degrees Fahrenheit. Corrected On-Site.  New Violation.
3. Observed no proper date marking on foods such as chicken, pork chops, and beef. Corrected On-Site.  New Violation.
4. Observed a washcloth stored inside on a reach-in cooler. Corrected On-Site.  New Violation.
5. Observed floor drain in kitchen area holding water. Repeat Violation. Correct by: 08/19/2026

A staple of the Nashville community featured on this week’s Restaurant Report is celebrating a flawless health inspection score while continuing its nine-year mission of serving fresh, healthy, and family-oriented meals.

Vee’s Restaurant, located at 106 North Davis Street, recently earned a perfect 100 on its food service inspection—an achievement owner Victoria Hempen says comes down to daily, relentless attention to detail.

“I do not ever really have reservations going into a food inspection because it’s an everyday thing,” Hempen said. “The cleanliness and the temperatures—the first thing that I do as soon as I hit the doors in the morning is check all the thermometers, make sure everything is safe to use for the day.”

A Commitment to Freshness and Cleanliness

Vee’s Restaurant specializes in breakfast, sandwiches, soups, and salads, focused on providing healthy alternatives for local diners. Among the restaurant’s signature offerings is a fully stocked salad bar, which Hempen notes is started completely fresh every morning.

“We dump whatever is left of it at the end of the day, because there’s really not much left anyway,” Hempen said. “But we start out fresh every single morning. I am a stickler on the cleanliness and the health department aspect of it.”

That consistent routine prevents minor issues from spiraling into larger health violations.

“We are a public service,” Hempen added. “So if anything goes wrong, it can lead to a disaster as far as the health side goes.”

It’s a Family Affair

The daily operations at Vee’s Restaurant are a team effort, run alongside Hempen’s mother and Kirsten, whom Hempen describes as being “like a daughter” to her.

“They go through, they know what I expect, they know what the health department expects,” Hempen said. “So it’s easy for them just to come in and do their morning routine and just check every single little thing to make sure that it’s top of the line and worthy of giving to a customer.”

That meticulous care has created a welcoming environment for a wide-ranging, loyal customer base.

“We like to think of ourselves as a safe space for everyone,” Hempen shared. “We have customers anywhere from our local mechanics up to our Superior Court judges. Everyone feels free to just come on and stop by and feel welcome, and you know, we’re all family.”

Fresh, In-House Specialties

For those who have not yet visited Vee’s Restaurant, Hempen highlights their unique “compound salads”—including chicken salad, pimento cheese, and tuna fish—all made fresh in-house.

In addition to traditional wraps and bread options like wheat, sourdough, and rye, the restaurant accommodates healthy diets and health restrictions with alternative options, including wrapping cold sandwiches in lettuce. For Hempen, the lettuce wrap option is also a nod to her childhood.

“My grandmother used to serve us tuna fish wrapped up in lettuce by her pool, so it was just kind of like a childhood thing,” Hempen recalled. “But we do offer the freshness factor and low calories for anybody who wants an option like that.”

Vee’s Restaurant is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
