COLQUITT COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — The Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office released an alert on their Facebook page to warn residents of a phone call scam that is going around.
“The scammers are at it again!” the sheriff’s office said in their Facebook post.
Officials said scammers have been calling people and telling them that they have a warrant or bench warrant out for their arrest. The scammers are also telling people that they have missed a court date and have to pay money in order to resolve it.
Below is a list of what the sheriff’s office advises you to do and what not to do:
- Do not
- Give money via Venmo, Cash App, PayPal, or Apple Pay
- Buy any cards (i.e. gift cards) potential scammers may request
- Give out any of your financial account information
- Do
- Speak to your elderly family members and teenage kids about scams like this one
The sheriff’s office warns that the scammers are using legitimate officer’s names.
