Description

DAWSON, Ga. (WALB) — As of now, Seminole County holds the final postseason spot at No. 32 and plays at Terrell County on Friday night in Dawson. Thirty-two teams make the postseason, and Terrell County is outside the field.

Seminole County holds on to final spot

Seminole County has lost its last three games by a combined 11 points. Coach Cedric Stegall said the message in Donalsonville has not changed.

“I’ve been preaching finish the last couple of weeks. You know, just finish the game... I think if we find a way to finish a close game, that’ll help us out in the long run,” Stegall said.

The Indians are 2-7 and would make the playoffs if the regular season ended today because of their strength of schedule.

“It’s been a brutal schedule this year. We thought we would be 7-3, but it’s flipped to be more like 3-7. It’s given us a chance to get into playoffs, and anything can happen once you make playoffs,” Stegall said. “(No.) 32 spot, if we beat Terrell, I think we’ll move up either 1 or 2 spots, maybe. We had a goal to win the region, of course that didn’t work out, but our next goal was to make playoffs, and now we have a chance to do that.”

Smith returns from ACL injury

Running back Kamauri Smith is fully back from a January ACL tear. Stegall said Smith’s presence changes everything.

“If he had been here, it would have been a different story. Those close games we lost might have been close wins for us,” Stegall said.

Terrell County turns to freshman quarterback

Terrell County senior quarterback Ja’Corey Williams broke his thumb in Week 11. Freshman backup Zeke Kimbrough has taken over at quarterback.

First-year head coach Art Anderson said the team is rallying behind Kimbrough.

“We have confidence in Zeke... We got the kids that’s rallying behind him, and they’re going to help him play well, too. We got a good group of seniors that’s going to keep him focused... So, we’re excited about playing with him,” Anderson said.

Terrell County needs help to reach playoffs

Terrell County is 4-5. Anderson has won more games in his first year than the program won in the previous two years combined.

Terrell County is No. 39 in the GHSA’s Class A power rankings and needs help to reach the postseason. Friday’s game is Senior Night.

“If we can make it to the playoffs, that would be big. Because no one expected us to even be in the situation like this. And so, to get to where we can be in the playoffs, that would be very, very huge,” Anderson said.

Seminole County needs a win to stay in the field. Terrell County needs a win and help from other results.

Seminole County takes on Terrell County Friday night at 7:30 P.M.
