DONALSONVILLE, Ga. (WALB) —Seminole County is looking to build on its first win of the season with a victory at home against Thomasville in Friday’s Week 5 Game of the Week.

Indians break into win column

Seminole County opened the season 0-2 before defeating Sneads 31-8 in week 4. The win came against a Florida opponent.

“We had a good time celebrating the win, but less than 24 hours after that we moved on and moved to the next matchup,” Quarterback Ellis Denham said. “We had a bye week last week and that really helped us get better at what we do, help our craft out, and just get better everyday.”

“The kids enjoyed it, they had a really nice time, they were excited about that win,” Seminole County coach Cedric Stegall said. “Hopefully that’s something we can build off of.”

Seminole County lost its season opener to Mitchell County by 35 points.

“I think that showed us that we need some work, a lot of work to get to where we need to be,” Stegall said. “So, we regrouped, came back against Westover, we looked like a better team, came back against Sneads looked good, got ourselves a victory and that’s just something to build off of. You know, we can do it, we just gotta do it consistently.”

Stegall built the team’s non-region schedule to test the squad against top talent.

“Their talent might be five or six on the offensive line; our talent might be one or two so I want to see how they compete against some top tier talent, said Stegall.”

Bulldogs riding high after win over defending champion

Thomasville lost its opener to Cairo before winning against Bainbridge and defeating defending state champion Worth County 30-16 last week.

“We were really excited Friday night with the way we finished the game,” Thomasville coach Jonathan DeLay said. “We kind of got a second chance at a three-touchdown lead at halftime, and this year we were able to put it away. Moving forward, we’re supposed to do that on Friday nights. So, we’re moved on because this one is gonna be a big one too.”

DeLay said he met with players Christian Hayes and Isaiah Palacios before a team meeting.

“I said, ‘Give me your thoughts on this team and where we are at right now.’ They said, ‘Coach, we’re not satisfied,’” DeLay said. “That’s what we have to be, we can never be satisfied. Yeah, there’s some moments that are satisfying especially when you win ball games but we can’t be satisfied or complacent with anything. We gotta continue to get better.”

Both teams look ahead to Friday

Week 5 is Thomasville’s last game before region play. Seminole County has a chance at its first in-state win of the season.

“We got ten one-game seasons and this is the most important game of the season right now,” DeLay said. “That’s all we’re focused on.”

“It’s going to take everyone on this staff, everybody on the team to come up with this victory,” Stegall said.

Thomasville plays at Seminole County at 7:30 p.m. Friday Sept. 18 in Donalsonville.
