Description
ATLANTA, Ga. (WALB) — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is working across party lines to strengthen pedestrian and cyclist safety across Georgia, backing new legislation aimed at closing dangerous infrastructure gaps in communities statewide.
Sen. Ossoff is cosponsoring the Sarah Debbink Langenkamp Active Transportation Safety Act, a bipartisan bill designed to help cities and counties address unsafe or missing sidewalks, bike lanes and other active transportation networks.
The legislation—led by Sens. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) and Ron Johnson (R-WI)—would allow states and local governments to use Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) funds for pedestrian and cyclist safety projects. It also prioritizes support for rural and underserved communities working to upgrade aging or incomplete infrastructure.
Advocates say the measure could help prevent injuries and save lives by making it easier for communities to fund critical safety improvements.
The push builds on Ossoff’s broader efforts to boost transportation safety and infrastructure investment across Georgia.
