Description

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Just now, I have updated the timing for severe storms on Sunday: 9am to 8pm. The main impact looks to be damaging winds, however we cannot rule out hail or a tornado. There looks to be two rounds, the first round brings most of the severe weather impacts. More in depth breakdown below:

FIRST ROUND: 9AM-2PM, DAMAGING WINDS AND TORNADOS POSSIBLE. A strong and organized line of thunderstorms will move through SGA during the first part of the day. The main threat is damaging winds, but given high shear and the potential for isolated pockets of moderate atmospheric instability, the tornado threat seems possible. 15% chance to see damaging winds, 5% tornado.

SECOND ROUND: 4PM-8PM, 5% HAIL RISK. Scattered showers/thunderstorms behind the main line could bring some hail in the late afternoon into the early evening. The risk falls off an hour or two after the sun sets. Damaging winds and tornados are very unlikely with this second round.

OVERVIEW: Be ready for severe weather starting early in the morning on your Sunday all the way through the day. There will be a brief break in storms in the middle of the day (between the two rounds). Expect thunder, heavy downpours (5% this could result in flash flooding across SGA), and gusty winds, along with the severe weather risks mentioned above. Rain will be done by late evening and clouds will be clearing heading into Monday. Rain totals look to be between 1-2 inches, beneficial for the ongoing drought.

WORK WEEK: The 70’s don’t look to go anywhere over the next 7 days. Mostly sunny and dry to begin the week with clouds building in on Wednesday. Slim rain chances return Thursday-Friday. We will steadily warm into the mid-upper 70s by Thursday and eventually pushing 80 degrees as we round out the work week. The end of the week may bring the warmest temperatures we have seen so far in 2026.
