BROOKS COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - The Brooks County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) is addressing concerns from residents following reports of vehicle thefts and related criminal activity in the East Brooks County community.

In a message to residents, Sheriff Mike Dewey said the sheriff’s office has received multiple reports over the past several weeks involving stolen vehicles and other crimes. He acknowledged the concerns these incidents have caused and assured citizens that deputies are actively investigating the cases.

According to Dewey, deputies have increased patrols in affected areas and are following up on all available leads. While law enforcement remains committed to protecting the community, he emphasized that preventing and solving crime requires cooperation between deputies and residents.

The sheriff noted that the investigation remains active and ongoing. He urged residents to gather facts before sharing information online, warning that speculation and misinformation on social media can create unnecessary fear and potentially interfere with investigative efforts.

To help reduce opportunities for crime, the sheriff’s office is encouraging residents to take common-sense precautions, including removing valuables from vehicles, avoiding leaving keys inside unattended cars, and reporting any suspicious activity immediately.

“The safety and security of our citizens remain our highest priority,” Dewey said in the statement.

The Brooks County Sheriff’s Office thanked residents for their continued support, patience, and cooperation as investigators work to identify those responsible and hold them accountable.

Officials say they remain dedicated to serving and protecting the community and are asking anyone with information related to the incidents to contact law enforcement.
