Description

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) -

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW- A line of strong thunderstorms is expected Sunday early afternoon through the evening (moving from west to east). Before the storms roll in tomorrow, southerly winds could gust up to 40 MPH. The far NW counties, Stewart and Quitman, will see it first (around 2pm give or take), eventually moving into Albany in mid-late afternoon (4-5pm). The main line continues to move west into the evening but while weakening. Our eastern counties likely seeing rain and maybe a thunderstorm or two in the evening, around 7pm.

The Western 2/3 of the viewing area is under a Slight, level 2 risk, for severe weather. The main threat will be damaging winds (15% chance) with a secondary isolated tornado threat (5% chance). An embedded tornado within a line of strong storms cannot be ruled out in the afternoon, but the main threat will be the chance for damaging winds (up to 60 mph) across the viewing area in the afternoon lasting into the early evening. The severe weather threat will decrease the further east you go from the Flint River valley (meaning it decreases as you go further into the evening as well). The main Severe weather timeframe will be from 2-9pm, this means you need a way to receive weather updates anytime after lunch through the evening.
