Description

LEE and GRADY COUNTIES, Ga. (WALB) - The Lee County and Grady County sheriff’s offices are warning the public of an arrest warrant scam.

Both sheriff’s offices said they have received numerous calls from reporting a phone scam involving fake arrest warrants.

The scammers are claiming to be from either the sheriff’s office and telling the victim that they have an active arrest warrant. The scammer will then demand payment, often through prepaid cards, wire transfers, or mobile payment apps, to “clear the warrant and avoid arrest.

“No law enforcement agency, including the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, will ever call you to demand payment over the phone or request money to resolve a warrant. We do not accept payment via gift cards, prepaid debit cards, mobile apps, or cryptocurrency.”

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said that anyone who receives these calls should:

  • Hang up immediately
  • Do not give personal or financial information
  • Do not send money or make any type of payment

LCSO is reminding the public that arrest warrants are served in person and never handled by phone payment.
