STATESBORO, Ga. (WTOC) — Around 70 artists are turning Statesboro into an open-air gallery this weekend.
The Statesboro Festival of the Arts features about 70 artists are displaying paintings, photography, glasswork and sculptures, among other mediums. Live music, food trucks and hands-on demonstrations round out the weekend.
“We want to share this amazing talent with the community, and we want people to see the value like we do,” said Kimberly Riner, committee chair for the Statesboro Festival of the Arts.
Connecting with the community
Organizer Jason McCoy said art is everywhere and showcasing it is essential.
“It connects with families and communities in ways that people don’t even expect,” McCoy said. “Having people not only demonstrating it but selling the things that they make by hand and showing people that not everything is mass produced, it’s important.”
The festival takes place at the Statesboro Convention and Visitors Bureau. People walked from tent to tent, admiring the art and talking with the artists.
Daniel Eskridge is selling his paintings and prints this weekend. He said the festival allows him to showcase his work more intimately.
“It’s also good to tell people the stories behind the art,” Eskridge said. “I sell online all the time, but you can’t tell people about it then they just have to see it on their own.”
Eskridge encouraged people to stop by and support local artists.
“There are many fantastic artists out here, I am admiring a lot of these around me, not just mine. Come to see mine, sure, but come out support the arts,” he said.
The festival is open Sunday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Organizers said anyone coming out should bring cash and sunscreen.
