SOUTH GEORGIA (WALB) — Temperatures will warm into the 70s today, with a chance of showers returning Friday before cooler air settles in Saturday.
A warm front moves in Sunday, bringing a round of showers and thunderstorms. A significant weather system is expected to track across south-central Georgia late Sunday as a southern stream disturbance and surface low move through the region. A few strong storms cannot be ruled out.
Models are lining up for a more Significant South Georgia Winter Storm next week, late Friday- early Saturday 1/30-1/31/2026. The Classic Gulf Low + Arctic Air. We will need watch this one for sure..
Behind the system, an Arctic blast arrives Monday, ushering in the coldest air of the season — and possibly the year. Much-below-normal temperatures are expected, with widespread freezing conditions developing by Tuesday morning.
A hard freeze is increasingly likely, with probability-based guidance showing a 60–80% chance of temperatures dropping to 25 degrees or colder early Tuesday.
The threat for wintry weather this weekend has significantly decreased. The chance of freezing rain along the U.S. 280 corridor, including the WALB viewing area, has dropped to 5% or less and is no longer a concern.
Looking ahead, forecast models are beginning to align on the potential for a more significant winter storm across South Georgia late next week, between Friday and early Saturday, Jan. 30–31.
The setup includes a classic Gulf low interacting with Arctic air, a system that will need to be closely monitored.
