Description
TIFT COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - Authorities are searching for a suspect who fled from law enforcement during an attempted traffic stop in Tifton on May 5, 2026.
According to preliminary findings from Georgia State Patrol Post 13, troopers were called to the Ferry Lake Road area to assist Tifton Police Department (TPD) in serving a felony warrant on a wanted individual.
A trooper spotted a vehicle matching the suspect’s description and attempted a traffic stop for failure to maintain lane. The driver did not stop and turned onto Newton Road.
Because the situation unfolded in an active school zone, the trooper made the decision not to pursue the vehicle and notified dispatch. Troopers canvassed the surrounding area before Tifton police later located the vehicle nearby.
Officials say the suspect then fled on foot and has not yet been located.
Authorities have not released additional details at this time. The investigation remains ongoing.
WALB is working to get the suspects identification and mugshot.
