VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) — The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) has identified the suspect in a deadly shooting at a Valdosta business that left one man dead and three others injured.
Deputies responded to reports of an active shooter at Jay Boy’s Travel Center on Madison Highway around 11:45 a.m. on Sunday, May 3.
When deputies arrived, they found four people suffering from gunshot wounds.

Authorities say Damani Bentley died from his injuries. Three other victims were transported to South Georgia Medical Center and are currently receiving treatment.
Investigators identified the suspect as Jabari Nelms, who was taken into custody without incident. Officials say Nelms is being held at the Lowndes County Jail and faces multiple charges, including murder.

Preliminary information indicates the suspect and victims were all employees of the business and were working at the time of the shooting.
Investigators say they are actively working to determine what led up to the incident.
Family members of the victim were contacted by WALB but declined to speak at this time on the advice of their attorneys.
