PEARSON, Ga. (WALB) — A routine traffic stop led to a drug bust Friday night, according to the Pearson Police Department (PPD).

Around 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 14, an officer stopped a car for an alleged obscured tag and reported smelling marijuana, police said.

Search turns up drugs, guns

A search reportedly turned up about 1.7 pounds of suspected marijuana in mason jars, several guns, digital scales, pills not in original bottles and other drug items, officials said.

The driver was arrested and faces multiple drug and firearm charges, according to PPD. The driver’s charges are listed below:

• Tinted or Obscured Tag
• Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute
• Possession of Marijuana More than an Ounce
• Possession of Drug Related Object (2 Counts)
• Possession of Drugs Not in Original Container (2 Counts)
• Possession of Firearm During Certain Felonies (5 Counts)
• Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute within 1,000 Feet of School Property
• Sales of Marijuana

Police said the driver was taken to the Atkinson County Jail.
