Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — A suspicious package containing white powder was sent to U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop’s office in Albany.
Across the country, state election offices and officials have reported receiving similar packages ahead of elections. According to NBC, at least 26 state election offices and 22 congressional Democrats’ offices have been targeted.
Bishop said staff members’ and constituents’ safety remains the top priority.
“We’re certainly interested in safety — the safety of our staff, the safety of our constituents who come to the office, and so, we have to take precautions, always. Fortunately, this was a hoax. It was unfortunate, but we have to take it seriously.”
The Albany Police Department said the investigation has been turned over to the FBI.
