Description

THOMAS COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — The city of Thomasville plans to support survivors of domestic violence with funding from a $1 million grant.

The city announced it received the 2026 Community Development Block Grant from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) on Oct. 28.

The grant is designed to support infrastructure, enhance facilities and improve overall quality of life for rural Georgia communities, according to DCA.

City officials say they applied for the grant as part of an agreement with Halcyon Home, Incorporated and the funding will be used to support the construction of the organization’s new domestic violence shelter.

Halcyon Home serves victims of domestic violence across Thomas, Grady, Decatur, Mitchell, and Seminole counties.

“We are incredibly honored for this opportunity to assist the Halcyon Home in the construction of new shelter that allows them to continue serving victims of domestic violence,” said City Manager Chris White. “On behalf of our City Council and City Leadership, we extend our gratitude to DCA for their belief in this impactful project and to U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop for his support throughout the application process.”

Thomasville was one of 42 Georgia communities awarded and you can find the full list here.
