Mayor Julie Smith said she was honored to help with the ceremony.

“Listen, these are just wonderful men and women. They’re also neighbors and friends and business owners and just fellow citizens of this community. And I’m so proud and so humbled to be able to honor them because of the freedoms that we have, that we can even gather and celebrate this day. So for their sacrifice, for their dedication to our country, we just want to say thank you,” Smith said.

Multiple law enforcement agencies and community members attended the event, which included a Presentation of the Colors, performances of “America the Beautiful” and other patriotic tributes.

Keith Beasly, who served in the Air Force from 1984 to 1988, said he was thankful for the community support.

“You know, events like this just honor those that gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country... This is just a great crowd that we’ve got here today. Fortunately, it wasn’t too hot, and it wasn’t raining... It really means a lot to see this many people come out and support this Memorial Day service,” Beasly said.
