Description
THOMAS COUNTY, Ga. (WCTV) - More than 100 new jobs are expected to come to a Thomas County timber mill that’s been left unused for nearly three years.
Plantation Pine Products will reopen as a sawmill, but there will also be production of mulch and wood pellets.
The company will invest $25 million into the project in Metcalfe, the former Hood Industries site.
More news out of South Georgia:
The director of the Thomasville Payroll Development Authority, Shelley Zorn, discussed the greater impacts of the reopening on Tuesday.
“Every job creates another job, and we always try to remember that every job represents a person, and every person represents a family. So 100 jobs, again, have indirect job creation, but it also ripples through a family unit and helps those 100 people plus their families.”
Reopening the sawmill is phase one of the project — that work is expected to be finished later this summer.
