WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump says he is "not happy with Israel" after it violated an hours-old ceasefire agreement with Iran.

Trump expressed his disappointment to reporters at the White House before departing for the NATO summit.

"They violated, but Israel violated it too. Israel, as soon as we made the deal, they came out and they dropped a load of bombs the likes of which I've never seen before, the biggest load that we've seen," Trump said. "I'm not happy with Israel, you know, when I say, OK, now you have 12 hours, you don't go out in the first hour and just drop everything you have on them, so I'm not happy with them. I'm not happy with Iran either, but I'm really unhappy if Israel is going out this morning."

He followed with a statement on Truth Social telling Israel, "DO NOT DROP THOSE BOMBS. IF YOU DO IT IS A MAJOR VIOLATION. BRING YOUR PILOTS HOME, NOW!"

Iran’s military denied firing on Israel, state media reported — but explosions boomed and sirens sounded across northern Israel midmorning.

Trump announced on Monday that both Israel and Iran accepted a ceasefire plan to end their 12-day war.

A White House official said that Israel agreed to the ceasefire agreement as long as Iran would agree to stop attacking their country, according to CNN, with Iran ultimately agreeing to those terms.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz instructed Israel's military "to respond forcefully to the violation of the ceasefire by Iran through intense strikes against regime targets in the heart of Tehran."

"The Iranian regime has severely violated the ceasefire declared by the President of the United States and launched missiles toward Israel, and in accordance with the government's policy as determined - we will respond forcefully to any violation," he wrote on X.

Trump announced on Truth Social Tuesday morning that the ceasefire was in effect.

"THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!"

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a statement agreeing to a bilateral ceasefire with Iran in coordination with Trump, adding that the country had achieved all of its war goals.

"Israel has removed from over it a double existential threat – on both the nuclear issue and regarding ballistic missiles," Netanyahu said. "The IDF also achieved complete air superiority in the skies over Tehran, struck a severe blow to the military leadership and destroyed dozens of Iran's main regime targets."

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran would stop its attacks if Israel would, though it’s unclear what role Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s leader, played in the talks. He had said on social media that Iran would not surrender.

"As of now, there is NO ‘agreement’ on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations,” Araghchi wrote on social media. “However, provided that the Israeli regime stops its illegal aggression against the Iranian people no later than 4 am Tehran time, we have no intention to continue our response afterwards.”

The ceasefire deal followed Iran's attack on a U.S. military base, Al-Udeid, in Qatar after Trump ordered the bombing of three nuclear sites in the country. Iran warned the U.S. in advance, and there were no casualties, according to U.S. officials.

The White House has maintained that the Saturday bombing helped get the Israelis to agree to the ceasefire and that the Qatari government helped to broker the deal.

In Israel, at least 28 people have been killed and more than 1,000 wounded in the war. Israeli strikes on Iran have killed at least 974 people and wounded 3,458 others, according to the Washington-based group Human Rights Activists.

The group, which has provided detailed casualty figures from Iranian unrest such as the protests surrounding the death of Mahsa Amini in 2022, said of those killed, it identified 387 civilians and 268 security force personnel.

The U.S. has evacuated some 250 American citizens and their immediate family members from Israel by government, military and charter flights that began over the weekend, a State Department official said.

There are roughly 700,000 American citizens, most of them dual U.S.-Israeli citizens, believed to be in Israel.
