WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump concluded his Middle East tour with a visit to the United Arab Emirates, where he solidified a $1.4 trillion investment pledge made by the UAE in March.

"The UAE remains committed to working with the United States to advance peace and stability in our region and globally," said Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, president of the United Arab Emirates, during a bilateral press conference with President Trump on Thursday.

During the visit to Abu Dhabi, Trump announced $200 billion in additional commercial deals between the US and the UAE. According to the White House, this brings the total investment agreements from the Gulf states to more than $2 trillion.

This has been an amazing trip. We have raised trillions of dollars in investment for our country," Trump said aboard Air Force One.

Donald Trump is only the second U.S. president to visit the UAE. George W. Bush first visited the country back in 2008.

The success in Abu Dhabi topped off a week of successful deal announcements for President Trump.

Earlier in the week, Saudi Arabia announced it would invest $600 billion in the United States. Qatar agreed to a $243.5 billion economic deal with the U.S. This included Qatar's order of 210 Boeing jets, valued at $96 billion.

However, Trump's decision to accept a $400 million jet from the Qatari royal family as a replacement for the aging Air Force One has sparked bipartisan criticism. Critics argue the jet would require costly modifications to serve as the presidential aircraft. There are also ethical concerns.

"There is this little problem called the constitution, and the constitution says the president can’t take gifts from foreign leaders. They can accept them if approved by Congress and this would have to be approved by Congress," said Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., defended the acceptance of the jet, stating it is a gift to the United States, not a personal gift to Trump, and noted that the U.S. routinely accepts foreign gifts.
