ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Uber has reached a settlement with a Georgia teen who says she was sex-trafficked after using the rideshare company.
In November 2024, the girl was 14 years old when she was reportedly picked up at a gas station in Butts County by an Uber, which was ordered by a man she’d been talking to online.
The lawsuit claims the Uber dropped her off 30 miles away in Clayton County, where she was allegedly drugged and repeatedly raped over four days.
The man, Thomas Bonner, remains in Clayton County Jail on charges of sodomy, aggravated child molestation, sexual battery against a person under 16, enticing a child for indecent purposes and statutory rape.
The lawsuit argues Uber turned a blind eye in transporting a minor without parental consent. The driver allegedly failed to verify the child’s age, request identification or contact her parents.
The settlement includes a confidential amount of money that will be placed in a trust until the girl turns 18, according to a motion filed Friday.
The motion comes months after a Gwinnett County judge ruled that Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi could be deposed under oath as part of the lawsuit.
