VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) - The Valdosta City Council has approved a new city property tax millage rate for 2025, according to a Friday press release from the city.
Mayor Scott James Matheson said the millage rates help support downtown services, economic development and the public school system.
Here are the approved millage rates:
- 6.254 mills for Valdosta’s general property tax rate. This rollback rate was established under guidelines from the Georgia Taxpayer Bill of Rights, according to the city.
- 5.000 additional mills for property within the Central Valdosta Development Authority (CVDA). The city said this will go toward “ongoing downtown revitalization and economic development.”
- 13.304 mills set by the Valdosta City School System are going towards resources for students, teachers and staff.
The city said the rollback rate was established to avoid a tax increase while maintaining essential services.
City Manager Richard Hardy said the city is committed to being responsible with taxpayer dollars.
“By adopting the rollback rate, we acknowledge the concerns of our citizens while ensuring continued support for essential services such as public safety, infrastructure, and community development. This decision reflects a balanced approach that meets current needs while maintaining a focus on long-term planning,” Hardy said.
