ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — Multiple people were sent to the hospital after a passenger van and a sedan crashed in Albany on Wednesday, April 29, at about 9:45 a.m. The driver of the sedan was transporting a shooting victim to the hospital when the crash occurred, according to the Albany Police Department (APD).

The crash was at the intersection of West Oakridge Drive and South Madison Street, near June Bug’s Grocery, officials said.

When WALB arrived at the scene, the passenger van was overturned across the street from June Bug’s while a small gray sedan had gone into a ditch.

A male victim inside the sedan reportedly noticed that he had been shot and that a vehicle was following him, APD said.

The victim’s girlfriend then tried to rush him to the hospital, APD said. She ended up running a red light and crashing into the passenger van, according to police.

The van flipped, and the sedan was sent into the ditch, APD said.

Authorities say at least three people were taken to the hospital with injuries.

No further details about the shooting have been confirmed at this time.
