Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — Talemicus Nix, a junior linebacker at Monroe Comprehensive High School, has been named VSU Scholar Athlete of the Week.
Nix is new to high school football. Teachers have spoken about his work ethic, and he brings that same work ethic and dedication to practice and the field, according to Aunt.
Nix said he hopes others see him as a good person who is fun to be around. He said he tries to make people laugh and bring positive energy because his parents taught him to be positive.
On the field and in the classroom
Nix said he wants to “go somewhere with football,” and that is why he comes to practice every day and tries to do his best.
“I just try to do my best in everything that we do and try to become the best version of myself right now,” Nix said.
In the classroom, Nix focuses on what the teacher is saying so he can finish his lesson and try to get all A’s. He said he helps classmates during group projects and helps classmates who do not understand a teacher’s lesson.
“I feel like everybody should pass and have the same knowledge of others, so everybody could succeed,” Nix said.
Working with his family
Away from football, Nix said he helps his father with work. His father does construction for his brother, who owns a company.
During the summer, Nix said he helps his father and grandmother to make money. His father picks him up and they go to a job site, where they might put down floors or even mow the yard.
On some weekends, he comes to practice and then helps his dad with work. He said balancing football, school and work has had a good impact on him.
“It helped me become a man and get prepared for what I have in the future,” Nix said.
Plans for the future
Nix said he wants to become a real estate agent or work in business finance. He said it is something he has wanted to do since he was young.
Nix said his ninth-grade teacher helped him decide on going down this path. He said he did not understand an assignment in her business finance class, and she helped him understand it. She also told him about the money people make and what the job involves because of her experience.
Returning to sports after COVID
Nix said he played every sport before COVID and that he stopped playing sports when COVID started and spent most of his time inside the house eating.
Nix said he had to overcome that.
“I had to come outside, work all that off, try to get slimmer and be the best that I can.”
