ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Keep your eyes to the sky, because a drone may soon be dropping off your Walmart order!

The world’s largest retailer announced on Thursday that it’s expanding drone deliveries to 100 stores in five new cities: Orlando, Tampa, Charlotte, Houston and Atlanta.

Launched in 2021 in Bentonville, Arkansas, and later spreading to Dallas, Texas, Walmart’s drone deliveries promise customers items within 30 minutes.

Greg Cathey, senior vice president of Walmart U.S. Transformation and Innovation, said the initiative is part of the company’s approach to “redefining retail.”

"We’re pushing the boundaries of convenience to better serve our customers, making shopping faster and easier than ever before,” he said. “This expansion of our drone delivery service marks a significant milestone in that journey.”

Walmart currently partners with Wing, a drone delivery provider. The drones can drop off products within a 6-mile range of the store.

In the past four years, Walmart said the drones have completed more than 150,000 deliveries. The most popular items are fresh fruit, eggs, ice cream and pet food.

It’s currently unclear when the drone service will be available or which metro Atlanta Walmarts will offer it.
