CORDELE, Ga. (WALB) - The Crisp County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a text message scam circulating in the area that impersonates Apple, claiming there has been unusual activity on the recipient’s Apple ID.

The messages urge recipients to click a link or call a phone number. The sheriff’s office said the number connects to a fake support line, not Apple.

The sheriff’s office said clicking the link, calling the number, or sending money in response to these messages could result in the theft of personal and financial information.

The sheriff’s office noted that seniors and those less familiar with technology may be more vulnerable to the scam.

Recipients are urged to share the warning with others, particularly those who are not on social media.
