COFFEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — Flash flooding in Coffee County washed away the underside of Old Coffee Road away Friday, June 19.

The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) posted the above video showing part of Old Coffee Road was damaged following early morning rainfall.

Shortly after CCSO’s post, which showed water rushing under the roadway, a community member posted a video on Facebook showing that the road had collapsed.

CCSO said the road will require major repairs. Officials said the road will be closed for the foreseeable future.

The sheriff’s office asked people to avoid driving through the area until the rainfall subsides.

If you do have to travel, the sheriff’s office recommends:

• Never drive through flood roadways
• Turn around, don’t drown
• Slow down and allow extra time
• Keep an eye on changing weather conditions
• Have multiple ways to get safety alerts

Coffee County deputies continue to monitor conditions and roadways for safety, CCSO said.

More flash flooding is expected throughout the region.
